Erik ten Hag names five Manchester United players who impressed him v Fulham
Erik ten Hag selected five Manchester United players that caught his attention during their victory over Fulham at Old Trafford.
United secured a place in the FA Cup semi-finals after coming from behind to win 3-1.
While the major talking point of the game was the strong reaction from Fulham after a penalty was given against them, resulting in the dismissal of their manager and two players, Ten Hag decided to overlook this and concentrate solely on United’s standout performers.
Although many Manchester United supporters may have found it difficult to watch the match, particularly the first hour, Erik ten Hag expressed his satisfaction with his players’ performance. In an interview with the club’s media, Ten Hag identified five individuals whom he believed played crucial roles in securing the triumph.
He named David de Gea, Antony, Jadon Sancho, Marcel Sabitzer and Bruno Fernandes for their roles in the win.
Ten Hag said: “As a team we performed really well; De Gea great saves, Antony with his great [cameo from the bench] because that attacking transition moment with Jadon Sancho, of course Marcel Sabitzer, and most of all I think Bruno Fernandes.
“He is the big leader, centre of the pitch, playmaking, [he had] a really good game and then finally he got his goal.”
When discussing the performance of Manchester United, Erik ten Hag expressed particular admiration for the team’s goalkeeper, David de Gea. He praised De Gea’s contribution to the game and highlighted his impressive performance as a significant factor in United’s success.
He said: “The first five or 10 minutes after half-time were really heavy, really tough. We conceded a goal and there were three big saves from David. We survived and then made a great transition moment and that was the key turning point in the game.”
Erik ten Hag’s contentment with his team’s performance could be attributed to the challenging schedule that they are currently facing. Manchester United has been involved in a congested fixture list, playing numerous matches in different competitions within a short span of time.
Despite this, Ten Hag was pleased with his players’ ability to compete and secure a vital victory. The team’s resilience and ability to perform well under pressure were likely contributing factors to Ten Hag’s satisfaction.
He said: “We showed great character. It’s not that easy. We’ve played the most games of every team all over Europe, every third day, and every time we showed personality, resilience, determination to win the game, today was tough but we didn’t expect any different before the game because Fulham is a good team and you have to be good to outplay them.”
