Erik ten Hag makes one key request before signing for Man Utd – report
According to renowned journalist Fabrizio Romano, Ajax manager Erik ten Hag wants enough influence over decision-making once he takes over as the new Manchester United manager.
Ten Hag and Mauricio Pochettino were the frontrunners for the managerial position, but it has since been revealed that the hierarchy has decided to select the former.
The Red Devils are willing to pay a little compensation money for his release from Ajax during the summer, but it appears the Dutchman has yet to agree on contract terms.
Ten Hag wants ‘enough power’ to decide on the next United project so that the club does not repeat its previous transfer mistakes.
This is preventing a formal agreement from being reached.
United have spent large sums on big signings in recent years, but this has not necessarily paved the road for success due to a lack of togetherness within the team.
If Ten Hag takes over, the rebuilding process might be lengthy. The Dutchman may prioritize young players with significant experience over big-name recruits at exorbitant prices.
Having dealt with seasoned players at Ajax, he may not be wholly opposed to high-profile purchases. The emphasis will be on assembling a team capable of long-term success.
As a result, he would need the full support of the United board. The 52-year-old must have enough clout to turn down transfer targets who may not fit his style of play at the Red Devils.
