Erik ten Hag makes decision on stripping Bruno Fernandes of Man Utd captaincy
Erik ten Hag has stated that he has no intention of taking away the captaincy from Bruno Fernandes despite some people calling for it following his performance against Liverpool.
Despite Harry Maguire’s continued absence from the team, Bruno Fernandes has been the captain for most of the season. However, during the match against Liverpool on Sunday, Fernandes did not display the leadership qualities that led to him being given the captaincy.
He was seen pushing the assistant referee, holding his face after being hit in the chest by Ibrahima Konate, and gesturing to come off the field after Liverpool scored their sixth goal.
After the match, Gary Neville criticized Fernandes’ actions and called them a “disgrace”, while Roy Keane suggested that Fernandes had let his teammates down.
As a result, there are now calls for Fernandes to be stripped of the captaincy. It’s worth noting that Ten Hag has demonstrated his willingness to be decisive earlier in the season.
According to the Sun, Ten Hag has no intention of removing the captaincy from Fernandes, and the midfielder still has the manager’s support.
Fernandes reportedly spoke to his teammates after the Liverpool defeat, encouraging them to make things right for the rest of the season.
Manchester United does not have much time to dwell on the loss, as they have a game against Real Betis at Old Trafford on Thursday, followed by a home match against Southampton in the Premier League.
