Erik ten Hag launches transfer bid ‘at all costs’ after discovering ideal Man Utd center-back

Erik ten Hag, the new manager of  Manchester United, has launched a transfer bid ‘at any cost’ to sign his dream defender.

United confirmed the appointment of the Dutchman, who arrived in London last week with his agency to begin his job at Old Trafford.

Ten Hag went to his first United game, watching them lose to Crystal Palace on the penultimate day of the season.

Ten Hag has already discussed Cristiano Ronaldo’s future as he prepares to supervise significant changes in the club’s first-team squad.

Edinson Cavani, Paul Pogba, Jesse Lingard, Juan Mata, Lee Grant, and Nemanja Matic will all leave the club when their contracts expire.

Furthermore, United will consider bids for Dean Henderson, Aaron Wan-Bissaka, Phil Jones, Eric Bailly, Facundo Pellestri, and Anthony Martial, as Ten Hag appears prepared to make a number of rash decisions.

Multiple incomings are unavoidable at the club this season in order to refill the ranks.

Ten Hag is said to have prioritised the club’s pursuit of Villarreal centre defender Pau Torres, a long-term priority for United.

Last summer, the club considered signing the Spanish international, but instead signed Real Madrid’s Raphael Varane.

Varane is competing for a starting berth alongside Harry Maguire and Victor Lindelof, but the trio has all experienced injury concerns this season, and Bailly and Jones are both slated to leave this summer.

This has reignited the club’s interest in Torres, who is set to become available for transfer later this year.

According to a report in Marca, Villarreal are willing to sell their defender for £42 million (€50 million) this summer because the club will miss out on Champions League and Europa League football next season, and the financial implications of that will mean they will be open to offers for their most marketable assets.

Ten Hag is said to be desperate to recruit Torres this summer because he believes he is the ideal central defender for the style he wants; comfortable playing out from the back and pushing the ball into midfield.

Torres was a key figure in Villarreal’s Europa League triumph last season and their progress to the Champions League semi-finals this season, where they were defeated by Liverpool in the final four.
