Erik ten Hag handed fresh blow with Alejandro Garnacho’s injury worse than first feared

It appears that Alejandro Garnacho’s injury is more severe than what was originally thought, as the forward is now confirmed to be absent from Argentina’s international matches in March.

During the match against Southampton on Sunday, the 18-year-old winger was brought in as a substitute in the second half. He received a heavy but fair challenge from full-back Kyle Walker-Peters and had to be treated for his injury.

In the end, he was replaced by Fred in the final moments of the match, limping down the touchline.

He was later spotted leaving Old Trafford on crutches and wearing a protective boot.

According to the coach Erik ten Hag, the injury of the winger during the match against Southampton appeared not be too serious.

Manchester United has two crucial games scheduled against Real Betis on Thursday and Fulham in the FA Cup on Sunday before the international break.

Garnacho received his first call-up to the senior Argentina squad for matches against Panama and Curacao on March 23 and 28, but according to TyC Sports, he is expected to miss those games due to a more serious injury than initially thought.

Further scans were conducted on Tuesday to confirm this. Alejandro’s brother, Roberto, shared a social media post about the injury, expressing confidence that his brother will recover stronger.

Since making his first-team debut in October, the ex-Atletico Madrid youth player has netted four goals and contributed five assists.

He scored the vital second goal in the 3-1 victory over West Ham in the FA Cup fifth round, with Fred adding a late third.

Casemiro’s absence for the next four games is already a concern for United, as the Brazilian received his second red card of the season against Southampton.

United have opted not to challenge the decision, meaning that the former Real Madrid player will be absent for the FA Cup quarter-final against Fulham on Sunday, as well as the Premier League matches against Newcastle, Brentford, and Everton.

As a result, Tottenham have the opportunity to surpass United and move up to fourth place if they defeat Southampton on Saturday.

Although United will not play a league game until the beginning of April due to their FA Cup commitments, they will still have two games in hand over Antonio Conte’s team when they return to league action.
