Erik ten Hag given the go-ahead to make the £50m winger his first Manchester United signing
Manchester United have been granted the go-ahead to sign Ajax winger Antony, with Erik ten Hag eager to bring the player from Amsterdam to Old Trafford.
The Red Devils have reached an agreement with ten Hag on personal terms for the Dutchman to take over at the Theatre of Dreams this summer.
The Ajax manager is likely to sign a three-year deal with United, but the delay is due in part to Ten Hag’s insistence on having influence over the club’s recruitment.
He has already evaluated United’s roster in terms of who has to be replaced and what areas need to be strengthened, and he has identified the right wing as a priority.
Antony, 22, has established himself as a Brazil international since joining Ajax, and the Sun reports that the Dutch giants are willing to accept a cost of approximately £50 million to let him leave this summer.
United have a good relationship with Ajax, having dealt with them in previous years for Daley Blind and Donny van de Beek.
Ten Hag prefers to sign players who are familiar with his style of play, and Antony would fit a problem position that has caused United problems in recent years.
Jadon Sancho was signed to play on the right side, but he’s mostly played on the left, where Marcus Rashford, Anthony Martial, and Jesse Lingard all prefer to play.
Ten hag believes that United should move quickly to sign Antony because his worth might soar by the time the World Cup rolls around in December.
