Erik ten Hag forced to intervene after three Man Utd players ignore coach in training

Erik ten Hag admonished his  Manchester United players after a string of errors by trio Bruno Fernandes, Diogo Dalot, and Marcus Rashford.

After inheriting an underperforming group, the Dutchman is eager to increase standards over the first two weeks of preseason.

Ten Hag and his coaching team put United’s players through their paces after they returned to the club’s Carrington training headquarters at the start of last week.

Former Sir Alex Ferguson assistant Steve McClaren has rejoined United, along with Ten Hag lieutenant Mitchell van der Gaag.

McClaren and Van der Gaag may be heard calling out particular blunders in a video shared to the Red Devils’ social media channels. Ten Hag then intervenes to chastise his players.

Fernandes is the first star to make a mistake, passing to Anthony Elanga’s left side. The manoeuvre causes McClaren to exclaim, “On the right foot Bruno! On the right foot!”

But the lesson was plainly missed, as right-back Dalot made the identical error, passing to Scott McTominay’s left side rather than his right.

In the background, one can hear, “On the right!”

Rashford, who will be hoping for a fresh start under Ten Hag, is the third player to make the same error, passing to the wrong side of Anthony Elanga.

Before a coach screams, “To the right, Marcus!” there is a loud grunt.

Ten Hag intervenes at this time, exclaiming loudly, “Hey, we’re making too many mistakes!”

The former Ajax boss, 52, has had a rough start at Old Trafford.

Ten Hag may have hoped for further signings as mid-July approaches, having prematurely terminated his contract with the Eredivisie side to begin work at United.

United have completed the signing of Tyrell Malacia, a 22-year-old left-back who will compete with Luke Shaw and Alex Telles. Other targets, however, have yet to be acquired.

According to many sources, Christian Eriksen has agreed to forego Brentford in order to join Manchester United as a free agent.

The midfielder spent the second half of last season with the Bees, but Ten Hag has identified him as a significant target.

Ten Hag is looking for more technically gifted midfielders.

However, star forward Cristiano Ronaldo’s future remains uncertain. The 37-year-old is said to have told United officials that he wants to go if a suitable offer is offered, and that he wants to continue playing in the Champions League.

Ronaldo has not been present for pre-season training, although it is not believed that this is due to his desire to depart.
