Erik ten Hag delivers verdict on Donny van de Beek’s performance against Real Sociedad
Donny van de Beek made his first start for Manchester United this season against Real Sociedad.
After returning from injury at the weekend, the Dutchman was called into the squad amid a slew of injuries to attacking players.
Van van Beek played for 58 minutes before being replaced as Erik ten Hag made tactical changes.
After the game, the manager stated that he was pleased with the performance of the player he had handled at Ajax.
Erik ten Hag informed the club website that he was impressed with the midfielder. He said: “It was also a decent performance from Donny van de Beek because we need the options in the front line. We have, with Antony, Anthony Martial and Jadon Sancho, three good players who can have an impact that are not available. So then others have to do it and show that we have a squad.”
Van van Beek’s ability to make an impact so quickly after injury was not ideal. He was up against a strong defensive team in a United side that appeared to be lacking in attack. Marcus Rashford also started the game on the bench due to a lack of fitness.
Van de Beek made 19 touches, completed nine passes, won two duels, and recovered five balls.
The Dutchman will be hoping for more chances in the following games, which include two against Aston Villa and one against Fulham before the World Cup break.
