Enzo Fernandez signs, Malo Gusto deal: Chelsea can conclude dream rebuild with £105m transfer

Todd Boehly is one step closer to completing Chelsea’s perfect rebuild after agreeing to terms with Malo Gusto of Lyon.

According to football.london, the Blues have reached an agreement with the French club for the transfer of the 19-year-old defender.

Chelsea began negotiations with Lyon over the weekend before submitting a reported €17 million (£14.9 million) opening offer, which was immediately rejected by Laurent Blanc’s squad.

The two parties eventually reached an agreement that will see Gusto join the west Londoners for approximately £26.3 million plus add-ons.

However, the France youth international will remain at Lyon on loan until the end of the season. The signing of Gusto is a significant step in the right direction as Chelsea manager Graham Potter seeks to implement his ideas further.

A new midfielder is the final piece of the puzzle at Stamford Bridge, not the right-back.

The Blues have been heavily linked to Benfica wonderkid Enzo Fernandez and Brighton star Moises Caicedo, both of whom would be adequate additions for Chelsea.

Therefore, SportsDias has examined how Chelsea could line up next season if Boehly is able to complete one more transfer before the January transfer window’s closing date.

4-3-3

Under Potter’s direction, a front-three of Mykhailo Mudryk, Christopher Nkunku, and Noni Madueke will be a sight for Chelsea fans to behold.

With such a formidable frontline, Mason Mount will finally receive a break in the chance-creation department and will likely return to the advanced eight position in a three.

Next season, if Chelsea utilizes a back-four, it may be difficult for Gusto to earn starting opportunities with Reece James playing such a pivotal role.

So as to unlock the Blues’ maximum attacking potential, a back-three formation may be on the cards.

3-4-2-1

Potter will be able to utilize James and Gusto, two extremely dangerous threats in the final third, in a back-three formation. This formation may appear excessively defensive to some, but it will give Chelsea’s play tremendous width.

While Benoit Badiashile and Thiago Silva are in the starting lineup for Chelsea, Levi Colwill could quickly assert himself in the back line. By the end of the following season, the young defender could be a key contributor.

4-2-3-1

This formation could be just as exciting if Felix directed it from the center of the field. Chelsea would have great balance if Fernandez, valued at £105 million, and N’Golo Kante were teammates.

The only issue with this formation is that there may be too much space between the wingers and Nkunku, who will likely lead the line.

If the Frenchman decides to run in behind, the team would rely heavily on Felix and the passing ranges of Fernandez, Chilwell, and James.
