Enraged Riyad Mahrez fumes and calls out Elon Musk after being stripped of Twitter blue tick
Riyad Mahrez of Manchester City took to Twitter to lash out at Elon Musk after the Algerian was deprived of his blue tick.
The American entrepreneur paid $44 billion for Twitter last week in order to reintroduce ‘free speech’ on the network.
However, just a few days later, the Algerian lost his blue tick, and Mahrez responded with three laughing emojis: “Bro @elonmusk, give me my blue tick back!”
On Twitter, blue ticks are awarded to ‘notable’ accounts, and Mahrez qualifies as a professional footballer.
With the blue tick, football fans can easily determine which account belongs to Mahrez.
One fan tweeted: “I can’t be the only one that checked to see if he was the real Mahrez?”
“‘bro’ he doesn’t know you g,” a second joked. While a third added: “After all those certified baller Tweets. This proves he ain’t a verified baller man. Even Elon Musk knows that!”
And one fake Elon Musk account joked: “Win a UEFA Champions League and I’ll consider it.”
Mahrez leads City’s scoring rankings this season with 23 goals in all competitions, eight more than second-placed Kevin De Bruyne.
City are presently on course to defend their Premier League championship, but they will face a stiff battle from Liverpool, who are only one point behind the champions.
