Edu kicks off Arsenal’s transfer season with two reported additions
Arsenal’s Technical Director Edu Gaspar appears to be wasting no time in strengthening the existing group, regardless of whether they compete in the Champions League or the Europa League next season.
Following news that Arsenal is nearing completion of the signing of Brazilian teenager Marquinhos, it has come to our knowledge that the club is also nearing conclusion of the transfer of Aaron Hickey.
The 19-year-old is regarded as one of Europe’s best young full-backs. And, according to Calcio Napoli, an Italian news outlet, the Gunners are close to signing him for a sum of €20-25 million.

That is excellent business for a man who has drawn a lot of attention since his move from Scottish side Hearts to Italian club Bologna in 2020.
Despite his youth, the teenager has made an incredible 46 appearances for his current club, as well as 34 for his former club.
That’s 80 senior appearances for a youngster who is still in his adolescence.

According to the report, neighbouring Serie A club Napoli is also interested in signing the teenager.
However, the sports director’s visit to London was pivotal in Arsenal acquiring the highly regarded full-back.
Hickey has also made two appearances for the Scottish national team, despite the fact that his favourite position is occupied by Liverpool’s Andy Robertson and Arsenal’s Kieran Tierney.

Mikel Arteta wants to bring Aaron Hickey to the Emirates Stadium because of Teirney recurrent injury troubles and as a competent back-up to Takehiro Tomiyasu.
The Spaniard appears to be unimpressed with last summer’s signing Nuno Tavares, who has had a disappointing debut season in the Premier League.
It’s encouraging to see the club displaying ambition and a willingness to seize market opportunities. It looks that the owners are no longer willing to wait.
