Mikel Arteta is still looking to add to his Arsenal squad this summer, but offloading fringe players is also a priority.

Since the start of the transfer window, the Spaniard has added five new players to his squad, and bringing in another midfielder and forward is still on the agenda in north London.

Despite signing midfielder Fabio Vieira from FC Porto, the Gunners have been heavily linked with Leicester City playmaker Youri Tielemans in recent months.

The Belgian is out of contract at the end of the season, and his bargain price of £25 million has piqued the interest of many.

Pedro Neto of Wolves is also a target, with the Portugal international capable of providing depth along the frontline.

The Molineux club is expected to demand £50 million for the 22-year-old’s services,  and Arsenal will almost certainly be eager to fund a portion of that sum by selling some of their surplus players.

Nicolas Pepe is a player on whom the Gunners will prefer to concede defeat sooner rather than later, having failed to live up to expectations since joining the club in 2019 for £72 million.

Arsenal and Nice are negotiating a loan deal, with the north London club hoping that a spell in Ligue 1 will help the 27-year-career old’s – though they may regret not pushing for a permanent deal if Pepe struggles in his new surroundings.

Ainsley Maitland-Niles, who is attracting a lot of interest from Premier League clubs, is another player Arsenal could try to sell rather than loan out.

The academy graduate spent the second half of last season on loan at Roma, but even his brief but sweet stint in Italy was insufficient to persuade Arteta that he is good enough to be in his plans.

Nottingham Forest and West Ham are among the English clubs interested in the versatile midfielder, who can also play as a wingback, while the 24-year-old has suitors abroad who are keeping tabs on his situation.

Transfermarkt values Maitland-Niles at £9 million, and a fee in that range could be wisely invested by Arsenal into signing Tielemans as Arteta looks to upgrade on that option, especially given new reports that Tielemans’ valuation could drop to just £16 million.

Reiss Nelson, who has come through the Gunners ranks but appears surplus to requirements, is another player who is currently sidelined with a muscle injury.

Given his inexperience, the 22-year-old is unlikely to attract a mega-bid, but the arrival of Neto would push the Englishman further down the pecking order.

Hector Bellerin is another player who could command a low fee, with the right-back making no secret of his desire to leave Arsenal, with his emotional exit from Real Betis indicating that a return to Spain would be his preferred option.

The 27-year-contract old’s expires next summer, and the coming weeks appear to be the Gunners’ last chance to cash in on Bellerin.

Arteta will undoubtedly consider whether players like Cedric Soares and Rob Holding have futures at the club and could help raise funds. The pair are unlikely to play in the Premier League this season unless several injuries occur at the same time.
