Edouard Mendy sends classy message to Petr Cech following Chelsea legend’s departure from Stamford Bridge
Edouard Mendy, Chelsea’s goalkeeper, has delivered a touching message to Petr Cech following the club legend’s departure from Stamford Bridge.
Cech, who had a glittering playing career with the Blues, stepped down from his job as Technical and Performance Advisor at the west London club earlier this week.
Since Todd Boehly completed his ownership of Chelsea, there have been significant changes on the board, including the departures of Marina Granovskaia and Bruce Buck.
Cech said: “It has been a huge privilege to perform this role at Chelsea for the past three years.
“With the Club under new ownership, I feel now is the right time for me to step aside.
“I am pleased that the Club is now in an excellent position with the new owners, and I am confident of its future success both on and off the pitch.”
Cech was instrumental in the club’s acquisition of Mendy from Rennes in 2020, and the goalie went on to assist the Blues win the Champions League.
Mendy thanked Cech and wished him the best of luck in the future on social media.
‘I want to thank you for all the moments, all the trainings and all the learnings we have shared together. Thank you for your trust,’ Mendy wrote on Instagram.
‘I wish you a brilliant future in your upcoming challenges.’
Chelsea has been linked with defenders Matthijs De Ligt and Jules Kounde as prospective additions.
Meanwhile, in terms of attack, the Blues are regarded to be firm favourites to sign Raphinha after apparently agreeing a £55 million deal with Leeds United.
