Edouard Mendy hints as to when Chelsea will see the best of Timo Werner and Kai Havertz.

Chelsea goalkeeper Edouard Mendy believes The Blues fans will have to wait until next season to see the very best of Timo Werner and Kai Havertz.
The two German players arrived at Chelsea last season after completing a big-money transfer from the German Bundesliga.
Timo Werner was signed for £49.5million from RB Leipzig after four goal-laden seasons with Die Roten Bullen. Havertz, meanwhile, was brought in for a fee of around £70million from his boyhood club Bayer Leverkusen.
It was hoped Werner and Havertz would transform Chelsea from top four contenders to title challengers. For some reason, that hasn’t quite happened this summer.
Werner started well and hit eight goals in his first 11 appearances for Chelsea. But his goalscoring touch has abandoned him over the last six months and the 25-year-old has only scored four times since the start of November.
The deal to sign Havertz was completed only ten days prior to the start of the campaign. As a result., he wasn’t up to speed for the start of the season and was played in a somewhat unfamiliar midfield role for the early weeks of the campaign.

Havertz then contracted Covid-19 and was incapacitated for a week. The fitness he had built up was lost and it took weeks to fully recover.
It was hoped that the choice of Tuchel, who succeeded Frank Lampard at the end of January, would kickstart the seasons of both Werner and Havertz. Sadly for the latter, he sustained a mysterious injury in training and missed a month of action.
On his recovery, Havertz has started to produce his best form. Werner, meanwhile, has been a constant starter and has made match-altering contributions by either winning penalties or creating goals for his teammates.
Chelsea goalkeeper Mendy, who was also signed last summer, praised the German duo and made a strong foresight ahead of the 2021/22 campaign.
“They are really good players,” Mendy told Chelsea’s club website. “They are young players and it is the first time that they have moved to another country.
“I think they needed a couple of months to adjust and understand the Premier League but I see them every day and I know how good they are.
“I am happy for them. They showed their qualities on the pitch.
“Next season, 100%, we will see the best of Timo [Werner] and Kai [Havertz]. Even this year, we have enjoyed their good levels of performance and they are important for us.
“A game like Saturday is really good for their confidence.”
