Donny van de Beek Reverses Man Utd Transfer Decision Following Erik ten Hag’s Move

Donny van de Beek, a 26-year-old Dutch midfielder, is prepared to end his time at Manchester United and seek a new opportunity in the upcoming transfer window.

Despite being signed from Ajax for £35 million by Ole Gunnar Solskjaer in 2020, van de Beek has faced difficulties in establishing himself as a regular starter at Old Trafford.

After suffering a knee injury that ended his season in January, van de Beek was expected to have a more significant role for Manchester United this season, particularly with the appointment of Erik ten Hag as coach.

Ten Hag had previously utilized him extensively during their time together at Ajax. However, the Dutch international has remained on the periphery and has now made the decision to move on.

A recent report from The Guardian states that Donny van de Beek has acknowledged and accepted that it is the right time for him to leave Manchester United. The club is said to be pursuing a summer transfer deal for Chelsea midfielder Mason Mount. The report also mentions that Van de Beek anticipates being fit for pre-season training as he considers his next career move.

Although Van de Beek is now open to moving on, it is worth noting that he had previously resisted the temptation to seek regular playing time elsewhere. However, in January of the past year, he did express a desire for a loan move to Everton.

Ten Hag, the coach who previously worked with Donny van de Beek at Ajax, is reportedly in search of a top-tier striker for his team this summer. However, his expressed interest in securing a dynamic midfielder to rejuvenate the midfield seems to have persuaded Van de Beek that the current moment is opportune to revive his career away from Manchester United and explore new opportunities.

Reports suggest that Manchester United have already agreed on personal terms with Mason Mount and the next step is to negotiate a suitable transfer fee with Chelsea. However, it is unlikely that Chelsea will be accommodating in this regard, despite Mount having just one year remaining on his current contract and the possibility of leaving on a free transfer next summer.

Donny van de Beek is not expected to be the only peripheral player to leave Manchester United in the upcoming weeks. Several other players are also likely to follow the Dutch midfielder out of the club.

It has been confirmed that Phil Jones and Axel Tuanzebe will depart when their contracts expire later this month. Additionally, there are expectations that Harry Maguire, Anthony Martial, Alex Telles, Eric Bailly, and Brandon Williams will be sold before the start of the 2023/24 season.

Similar to Van de Beek, club captain Harry Maguire has previously expressed his determination to stay and fight for his place in the team. However, his stance may change considering Manchester United’s reported interest in Napoli center-back Kim Min-jae.
