‘Disappointed’ Antonio Conte points out player for his display against Fulham
Saturday’s 2-1 victory over the Cottagers at home maintained Conte’s squad’s undefeated start to the season.
Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg and Harry Kane scored for Spurs, but they were unable to maintain a clean sheet until Aleksandar Mitrovic produced a superb strike to get Fulham back into the contest.
Shortly after Mitrovic scored, Lloris made an exceptional stop to prevent him from tying the game.
But despite being frustrated that Spurs did not keep a clean sheet, Conte was highly impressed with his captain’s ability to retain concentration throughout the game. Conte stated to Spurs Play:
“Especially in this type of game because we were good to create many chances and not concede chances to Fulham.”
“Especially in this type of game, the good keepers always stay with great attention because Hugo is a fantastic goalkeeper for us.
“I’m a bit disappointed because we could’ve finished this game with another clean sheet but it’s ok. To get three points and 14 points in the table is important.
“It’s important because we had a good start this season and it’s important before the game in the Champions League to arrive with a good win.”
Conte clearly views Lloris as an important member of his team, and he delivered when Conte needed him most yesterday.
Spurs controlled for lengthy minutes, but Lloris made two crucial saves when his team needed them, allowing them to earn all three points.
