Diego Simeone verdict on the current Chelsea team after Champions League elimination.

Atletico Madrid were beaten 2- 0 to exit the UEFA Champions League competition. Chelsea went ahead through Zeyich strike after a counter-attacking flow, before Emerson doubled the lead deep into the second half.

Atletico Madrid coach Diego Simeone refused to take any excuse after the defeat. He said; “We were beaten by a better team.”

Atletico suffered a back-to-back defeat against Thomas Tuchel’s side. Chelsea had won 1-0 at Vicente Calderon with Giroud strike and Atletico hoped to overturn this deficit to progress to the next round.

It was a comfortable win for the Chelsea side, who now extend their unbeaten run to 13 games across all competitions under Thomas Tuchel.
Chelsea survived an early call for a penalty after Cesar Azpiicueta fouled Yannick Carrasco inside the penalty box. The referee however did not award them that chance to lead and put pressure on the home team, with the VAR not paying much attention despite a protest from Semione men.

While speaking to Spanish TV in a post-match interview, the Atletico Madrid Diego Simeone boss said; “No, we are not looking for excuses, we were beaten by a better team.
“We tried to go and press them, but they were able to get out of it, and we could not keep up with them.”

Since Tuchel took over, Chelsea has transformed the defending deficiencies that they suffered under Frank Lampard. Atletico Madrid lethal goal scorers Joao Felix and Luis Suarez not able to find the back of the net in both encounters just highlights how compact the Chelsea defensive backline has become.

Chelsea goalkeeper Eduoard Mendy has just conceded twice in 13 games under Tuchel. 13unbeaten run for the Germany coach is a new record for the club’s longest unbeaten start for a Chelsea manager, a record previously held by Luiz Felipe Scolari.

After seeing off Atletico Madrid, Chelsea boss said, “I’m pretty sure no one wants to play against us.”
