Declan Rice prefers Arsenal move ahead of Chelsea for one key reason
Reports indicate that Declan Rice prefers a transfer to Arsenal over Chelsea.
Chelsea have long admired the West Ham midfielder and are expected to bolster Graham Potter’s squad at the end of the season.
Nonetheless, Chelsea now faces competition from Arsenal, as it was revealed this week that the Gunners have made the England international one of their top summer targets.
West Ham is expected to sell Rice at the conclusion of the season, as the 24-year-old is eager to play for a Champions League club.
The Guardian reports that West Ham midfielder Declan Rice is ‘learning’ more about joining Arsenal due to the prospect of playing under Arteta.
According to the report, Arteta is a “huge fan” of Rice and has already mapped out where the midfielder would fit into his Arsenal system.
It is also believed that Rice believes Arteta can help him improve his game and that the transfer to Arsenal ‘appeals’ to him.
Rice’s current contract expires next year, but the club has the option to extend it to 2025. West Ham will attempt to secure over £100 million for him.
Rice stated during England’s World Cup campaign that he is eager to compete at the highest level for his club.
“For the last two or three years I have been saying that,” Rice said
“I have been playing consistently well for [my] club and I feel like I really want to keep pushing.
“I see my friends here who are playing in the Champions League and for big trophies… you only get one career and at the end of your career you want to look back at what you have won and the biggest games you have played in. I am really ambitious.”
