“Decision made..”: Fabrizio Romano drops MUFC transfer claim that will leave fans buzzing

Manchester United appear to be planning to offload two of its defenders during the forthcoming summer transfer window.

Journalist and transfer expert Fabrizio Romano shared on Twitter that there has been a “decision made” regarding the future of Eric Bailly and Axel Tuanzebe, with both players “set to leave” Old Trafford this summer.

Bailly joined Manchester United from Villarreal six years ago this week in a rumoured £30 million transaction.

He has made 113 appearances for the Red Devils. With a concerning injury record and only seven appearances in all competitions this season, it’s easy to understand why the club is trying to offload the Ivorian this summer.

The 28-year-old has mostly failed to impress in a United shirt, with Trevor Sinclair branding him “rash” after a clumsy own goal in the Manchester derby last November.

Tuanzebe, despite playing on loan for two separate clubs this season, failed to make an impact with either, making just two games for Napoli after leaving Aston Villa in January.

Following the first of them, Umberto Chiariello, an Italian journalist, chastised the Old Trafford academy graduate for making “mistakes that a defender should never make.”

Taking all of this into account, it’s simple to see why the club wants to get the defensive combination off their books and out of the club.

This should be music to the ears of United fans everywhere, giving them optimism that the club is seeking to get rid of some deadwood and possibly bring in some fresh players to replace them.

Given that Nemanja Matic, Paul Pogba, Jesse Lingard, Edinson Cavani, and Juan Mata will not be returning to the club next season, it is clear that the Red Devils will need to work hard to ensure that their team is strong enough before the new season begins in two months.

Based on their performances on the field, it’s safe to say that Bailly and Tuanzebe won’t be missed much at the club, but if the pair decide to leave Old Trafford for good this summer, the obligation will be on the club’s hierarchy to find suitable replacements so that Erik ten Hag isn’t left short of central defensive cover in the coming months.
