De Bruyne Speaks Out After Breaking PL Record Held By Former Arsenal And Chelsea Player
Kevin De Bruyne, a playmaker for Manchester City, refused to make comparisons after breaking a record previously held by Cesc Fabregas, a former Arsenal and Chelsea star.
Saturday’s 4-1 victory over Southampton resulted in De Bruyne’s 100th assist in the Premier League.
He reached this milestone in 237 appearances, which is 56 fewer than Fabregas. When asked about the accomplishment following the game at St. Marys, he stated:
“I don’t compare. Cesc is an unbelievable footballer player. I don’t compare myself to others.
“I just try and do the best I can do. People will talk about quicker. Everything is different, you play different positions and teams. We score a lot of goals!”
De Bruyne is currently fifth on the list of all-time assists, and he could soon surpass both Frank Lampard (102) and Wayne Rooney (103). However, he is still far behind Manchester United legend Ryan Giggs, who earned 162 assists in his illustrious career.
With these records, however, De Bruyne is firmly establishing himself as one of the greatest Premier League players of all time.
Given that the midfielder’s contract with City expires in 2025, he could achieve even greater success in the coming years.
