David Moyes now wants Arsenal trio in cash + players swap deal for Rice at West Ham

According to Football Transfers, David Moyes has expressed his desire to include Arsenal players in a cash-swap transaction for the sale of West Ham star Declan Rice.

The Hammers are currently engaged in discussions with the Gunners regarding their captain’s potential transfer, although an agreement is still far from being reached.

The board is reportedly aiming for a straight cash payment of up to £95 million.

However, there appears to be internal disagreement brewing, as the manager wishes to immediately strengthen his squad in any deal involving the departure of his prominent midfielder.

Moyes has set his sights on three players from the Emirates Stadium: Reiss Nelson, Folarin Balogun, and Albert Sambi-Lokonga.

According to Football Transfers, Arsenal holds the advantage in the negotiations for the purchase of Declan Rice, as they have the potential to shift their focus to Moises Caicedo from Brighton as an alternative option.

Reiss Nelson has reportedly been presented with a third contract offer from Mikel Arteta’s team, having previously turned down two offers [Daily Mail, 17 May].

Consequently, he may ultimately become a free agent, regardless of the outcome of the negotiations. On the other hand, Folarin Balogun has made an impression with 19 goals in Ligue 1 while on loan at Stade Reims this season. Club legend Thierry Henry advised him to seek a move away from Arsenal during an interview on CBS Sports (17 May).

Albert Sambi-Lokonga has been linked with a potential transfer to Burnley [The Sun, 16 May], where he would reunite with former Anderlecht manager Vincent Kompany.

While the mentioned players—Reiss Nelson, Folarin Balogun, and Albert Sambi-Lokonga—are undeniably talented, they may not currently possess the same level of ability as Declan Rice. Additionally, with only one of them being a midfielder, Moyes’ interest in them might appear slightly underwhelming compared to seeking a larger transfer fee.

However, considering West Ham’s disappointing domestic season, Moyes is likely in need of multiple new signings. If he remains as the manager, acquiring these players could address several areas of the team that require reinforcement.

Throughout this season, Moyes has faced significant threats to his job, and although Premier League survival has not been fully secured, the team’s qualification for the Europa Conference League final has improved his prospects of retaining his position.

It is possible that West Ham’s qualification for the Europa Conference League final has increased the chances of Declan Rice deciding to stay at the club, although that outcome is less likely. However, if the club decides to prioritize financial gain over the manager’s preferences, it could be a signal that David Moyes’ tenure at the London Stadium is coming to an end.

Supporters may prefer to see the club invest a significant portion of the transfer fee received for Rice in a high-level replacement, rather than acquiring multiple options who may not be guaranteed starters every week. While fans generally wish for Rice to stay, the prospect of Arsenal considering other options may not be a major concern.

Nevertheless, there are still numerous interested parties in signing Rice. Regardless of West Ham’s decision, they will need to ensure they do not leave a significant void in the midfield that has been effectively filled for several years, should their captain depart.
