David de Gea clarifies why Man Utd players are “excited” about Erik ten Hag

David de Gea has revealed why Manchester United are ecstatic about Erik ten Hag’s arrival.

The goalkeeper, who played in United’s 3-1 loss to Arsenal at the Emirates on Saturday, expressed optimism for the future after learning who is likely to take over the dugout.

“I am very excited. I think for the whole club it is very good to know who is going to be the manager next season,” he said. “We all know what he has done for Ajax.”

United’s chances of finishing in the top four were completely dashed after Mikel Arteta’s team won in north London, putting six points between themselves and the northwest club.

Ten Hag, the manager of Ajax, will take over from Ralf Rangnick in the summer, it was revealed on Thursday.

His current club is defending their Eredivisie title. With four games remaining, they lead by six points.

“We know what he has done for Ajax, De Gea continued to MUTV. “He has nearly been in a Champions League final, won titles and he develops players, so I’m very excited.

“I think he plays very good football. Now we have to be focused on the last games but we are excited for this. Now let’s focus on Arsenal and fight for the top four. It’s good to know he is already watching the games and thinking about what he can do to change for us. I’m looking forward to working under him.

United’s only realistic chance of having a successful season was to finish in the top four of the Premier League. They have a lot to climb after their loss to the Gunners, with many believing that their prospects are all but finished.

Nuno Tavares put Arsenal ahead after just three minutes. Then, after being fouled by Alex Telles, Bukayo Saka converted a penalty. Just before halftime, Cristiano Ronaldo equalized with his 100th Premier League goal.

However, United’s wind was taken out of their sails by Bruno Fernades’ weak penalty against the post, before Granit Xhaka’s superb effort won the win for Arsenal.
