Cristiano Ronaldo to Chelsea: Manchester United admission, Todd Boehly meeting, Tuchel verdict

Cristiano Ronaldo heading to Chelsea is a remark that few Blues fans anticipated to hear during the summer transfer window.

However, in Todd Boehly’s pursuit of at least one or two marquee additions this summer in this £200 million squad makeover, the American is going all out to guarantee that manager Thomas Tuchel is well equipped for next season.

Manchester United’s lack of activity in this transfer window has caused the 37-year-old, like the fans, to become increasingly irritated with an ownership structure that has just taken out another £11 million in profits.

As a result, United’s legendary No. 7 has already been offered to Bayern Munich by Jorge Mendes this summer.

The Bundesliga winners turned down the chance to sign the Portuguese to replace the Barcelona-bound Robert Lewandowski because they had previously signed Sadio Mané from Liverpool.

But Chelsea could now step in…

So, with that in mind, SportsDias has looked into what’s being said about the five-time Ballon d’Or winner on the gossip circuit.

Ronaldo wants United exit

Ronaldo is said to want to leave Manchester United this summer in order to continue playing in the Champions League.

Todd Boehly explored the potential of bringing him to Chelsea this summer when he made the decision.

Bayern Munich are also said to be interested in a move as Erik ten Hag takes over at Old Trafford this summer.

Ronaldo’s future has been a source of much discussion since the Dutchman’s hiring was revealed, and it appears increasingly probable that he will leave this summer.

According to a report in The Times on Sunday, he has urged United to allow him leave the club this summer if a good offer for his services comes through.

While the Champions League is a factor, a tragic year off the field has also played a role after his daughter’s loss put a major pressure on him and his family.

Todd Boehly meeting  with Ronaldo’s agent Mendes

Todd Boehly is alleged to have met with Ronaldo’s agent Jorge Mendes to discuss a potential transfer swoop for the Portuguese star, as he grows frustrated with Manchester United’s lack of action this summer.

With a year left on his contract and no idea how much time he has left at the highest level, the possibility of a transfer exit this summer, one year after returning to United, is on the table, with Bayern Munich already rejecting the concept. Step up, Chelsea.

According to The Athletic, new owner Boehly met with Ronaldo’s agent Mendes in Portugal to discuss a variety of issues. The future of the Portugal international was one of the topics considered during this meeting.

Ronaldo’s verdict on his future

Ronaldo has already indirectly ruled out a move to Chelsea by stating that he is “happy” to be where he is right now in the Premier League, amid reports that the striker is becoming disgruntled with Manchester United’s transfer activity.

It is known that Chelsea’s main attacking target at the moment is Manchester City’s Raheem Sterling, but that plan could quickly change if Ronaldo becomes available.

Multiple attackers are anticipated to be hired this summer to cover for potential Timo Werner and Hakim Ziyech departures amid talks between AC Milan and Juventus, but could the 37-year-old be one of them?

According to the man himself, he is ‘happy’ where he is to dismiss any prospective Chelsea transfer rumours, as the 37-year-old has also looking forward to life under ten Hag next season.

“I was and still am quite glad to be here,” he added recently. “I know (ten Hag) did a good job for Ajax and is an experienced coach, but we need to give him time and allow things to change the way he wants.”

“I was and still am very happy to be here,” he said in a recent interview. “I know (ten Hag) did a fantastic job for Ajax and that he’s an experienced coach but we need to give him time and things need to change the way he wants.

“I hope we have success. I wish him the best. We are happy and excited. Let’s believe that next year we are going to win trophies. I believe that Manchester [United] will be where they belong. Sometimes it takes time, but I still believe.”

Chelsea Manager Thomas Tuchel’s verdict on Cristiano Ronaldo

Chelsea manager Thomas Tuchel has already referred to Manchester United’s Cristiano Ronaldo as “one of the greatest” players of all time, amid reports of a transfer scuffle between new owner Todd Boehly and Jorge Mendes.

The German, who had to see Ronaldo score against his side in the 1-1 draw at Old Trafford last season, went on record to proclaim that he feels Ronaldo is one of the ‘greatest’ players to have ever stepped foot on a football ground, just as he did with PSG’s Neymar.

“Time will tell, but I think it is not a secret that any team in the world without Cristiano [Ronaldo] is in some parts of the game a weaker team,” he was quoted saying in the past via The Daily Express.

“He is one of the greatest who has ever played this game and he proves it every time he is on the field. Now [he is] in the Premier League and in the Champions League, so they lost a big champion, a big point of reference and a big personality. But you can win games and be a strong team without Cristiano Ronaldo. This is also true.”

Man United’s and Erik ten Hag’s stance on Ronaldo

Although the thought of cashing in on a player earning about £480,000 per week may be appealing to Man United’s shareholders, new boss ten Hag has already made firm preparations to have the Portuguese international as one of the key players he relies on next season.

There is even talk that Steve McClaren’s former assistant might depose Harry Maguire as captain in order to give Ronaldo greater responsibility as United face a difficult season just to finish in the top four.

It remains to be seen what happens with the captaincy.

Speaking after his final match in charge of Ajax last month, Ten Hag said via The Manchester Evening News: “From tomorrow (Monday), my focus will be on United, and I will of course get deep into things there. What I have to say about it is, the detailed analysis still has to begin, I still have to work with the team, but let me be clear that at United there are a lot of good players around. We have to make them function as a team but definitely Ronaldo, he is a giant.”

In another interview with De Telegraaf, Ten Hag added: “Ronaldo is a giant, because of what he’s already shown and I think he’s still very ambitious. Of course I would like to keep him. He’s been very important to Manchester United this year and can produce great statistics.”

Joao Felix advantage

According to the Telegraph, a Ronaldo move to Chelsea is ‘very unlikely’ this summer. However, they did confirm that Boehly did inquire about a number of Mendes’ other clients during his visit in Portugal.

Among the super agent’s clients are Atletico Madrid’s Joao Felix, AC Milan’s Rafael Leao, and Wolves’ Rayan At-Nouri. Felix, in particular, is a rumoured Spurs target, so has Chelsea acquired a transfer advantage over the Lilywhites as a result of their meeting? Time will only tell.
