Cristiano Ronaldo sends message to Man Utd team-mates following Arsenal win

In a post-match social media statement, Cristiano Ronaldo praised his  Manchester United teammates on their convincing 3-1 victory over Arsenal.

The 37-year-old great was used as a substitute once again by boss Erik ten Hag, who has only given him one start in six Premier League games this season.

It appears to be working, as those playing in place of Ronaldo have helped the Red Devils win four consecutive games and climb to fifth position in the standings after a horrific start of back-to-back losses.

The five-time Ballon d’Or winner is unsatisfied with being on the fringes of the starting lineup, but he is pleased with his team’s performance.

Ronaldo commented on Instagram following Sunday’s victory at Old Trafford:”Well done, lads! And a very special thank you to our supporters! Let’s go, Devils!”

United defeated Arsenal, who had won their previous five league games prior to their trip to Manchester, with to two goals from Marcus Rashford and one from £85 million signing Antony.

Arsenal had won their previous five league games prior to their trip to Manchester.

Ronaldo replaced Antony in the 58th minute with the score still 1-0 in favor of the Red Devils, but Bukayo Saka quickly drew the visitors level.

Fortunately for Ten Hag and co., the resurgent Rashford scored twice in nine minutes shortly thereafter to ensure that the home fans went home satisfied, much like Ronaldo appeared to do on social media.

Maintaining a positive demeanor for his adoring supporters is nothing new for the Portuguese superstar, who maintained positive social media profiles throughout the summer despite his desire to quit United.

Ronaldo was keen to negotiate a deal that would have allowed him to play in the Champions League this season, but the former Real Madrid and Juventus superstar must now play in Europe’s second-tier league until 2023.

The Portugal captain, whose last start for the Red Devils came in a 4-0 thrashing at Brentford nearly a month ago, is expected to play in Thursday’s Europa League group-stage opener against Real Sociedad at Old Trafford.

Ten Hag continued to field questions from the media regarding the notable absence of his striker from the starting lineup.

Prior to the Arsenal victory, the former Ajax manager was asked how he intends to coach Ronaldo now that he’s staying. “I will be his friend,” Ten Hag replied.

“Sometimes I will be his teacher — as we all know, he didn’t have the pre-season and you can not miss the pre-season. Especially the game we play, the way of play is not the type in comparison with last year. It depends, (and) demands, co-operation and demands certain positioning, in and out of possession. And the other thing is the fitness.”
