Cristiano Ronaldo sends Manchester United’s Erik ten Hag warning as he issues new plea
Erik ten Hag will “require time,” according to Cristiano Ronaldo, to be a success at Manchester United.
Despite being one of the club’s greatest performances this season, the superstar has been the focus of much speculations, with some speculating that incoming boss Ten Hag may let Ronaldo depart in the summer window.
However, the 37-year-old seems to be looking forward to working under the new boss.
. “I know that he has done a fantastic job at Ajax, and that he is an experienced coach, but we have to give him time,” Ronaldo told United’s official site.
“Things must change the way he wants. If you do well, all of Manchester United will succeed, so I wish you all the best. We are all happy and excited [with the arrival], not only as players but as fans as well. We have to believe that next year we can win titles.”
Though there have been concerns that the coach-elect and Ronaldo may not get along, Mirror Football knows that the current Ajax manager is looking forward to working with Ronaldo next season.
The 52-year-old played his farewell home game in Amsterdam this week as the Eredivisie giants clinched the league title.
Ten Hag and United’s Football Director, John Murtough, met last Thursday and reviewed transfer targets.
Mitchell van der Gaag and Steve McClaren, the former England, Derby, and Newcastle manager who worked with United’s incoming manager at Twente over ten years ago, were among those in attendance.
Ten Hag outlined his reasons for leaving Ajax and joining United after leading them to a 5-0 victory over Heerenveen at the Johan Cruyff Arena.
“It felt like a difficult but great challenge. That is the most beautiful thing there is,” Ten Hag said to Voetbal International.
“There is something to build at United and something to gain. Manchester United is such a big name in football history. It feels like a challenge to put the club back on track of winning.”
