Cristiano Ronaldo replied to Lionel Messi’s shenanigans on Sunday night in the only manner he knows how: by scoring goals for fun.

Diogo Jota also played an important role, setting up the Manchester United striker, with the Liverpool star playing a key role in two of the goals.

Overall, Portugal delivered a great performance in a competition that they have learned to enjoy.

The Selecao won the inaugural Nations League in 2019, and they will be hoping to repeat the feat after a strong start to this season’s campaign.

Much depends on whether Ronaldo is available for the final, although he has showed no signs of slowing down.

Portugal thrashed Switzerland 4-0, and it all started with Ronaldo, whose free-kick was only parried by Gregor Kobel.

The rebound was scored by William Carvalho, but the five-time Ballon d’Or winner had his goal after 20 minutes.

Jota set up the 37-year-old for a 12-yard screamer, which was followed in by Ronaldo for his second.

After another blunder from Kobel, Joao Cancelo finished the job by netting from 20 yards.

After drawing with Spain on Thursday, Portugal is unblemished in their opening two National League matches this summer.

Luis Enrique’s men squandered the opportunity to draw level with Fernando Santos’ men after drawing with Czech Republic, however it could have been worse had it not been for a late equaliser.

It means that the Portuguese lead on goal difference going into Thursday’s match against the Czechs.

Ronaldo’s brace brings his career total for his country to an astounding 117, though Lionel Messi will be hoping to catch him shortly. And with the way he’s scoring for Argentina right now, it’s not impossible.

The PSG forward enjoyed his own dream night, scoring all five goals in Argentina’s friendly win over Estonia.

After defeating Italy in the Finalissima on Wednesday, the South American champs had another successful night.

Messi had two assists against Italy and was the centre of attention on Sunday night in Pamplona, where the friendly versus Estonia was held.

The seven-time Ballon d’Or winner scored his first goal from the penalty spot and added two more before halftime.

With no chance of a comeback, the 34-year-old continued to dominate proceedings by scoring two more goals, his fifth for his country. However, he previously scored five goals for Barcelona against Bayer Leverkusen in a 7-1 triumph in 2012.
