Cristiano Ronaldo ‘makes decision’ on Man Utd future following Champions League disappointment
According to reports, Cristiano Ronaldo will not leave Manchester United this summer because he intends to finish out his contract at Old Trafford.
The Portuguese superstar, 37, returned to the Red Devils in a sensational trade from Juventus last August for a sum in the region of £13 million.
He agreed to a two-year contract extension through the summer of 2023, with the option for a third season.
Unsurprisingly, the five-time Ballon d’Or winner has found the back of the net on a regular basis, and he is United’s leading scorer this season with 18 goals in 32 appearances across all competitions.
However, he was ineffective throughout two last-16 legs against Atletico Madrid and was unable to keep Ralf Rangnick’s team from exiting the Champions League.
Ronaldo was visibly enraged throughout Tuesday night’s game, and there have been allegations that he is dissatisfied with the situation under Rangnick.
The former Real Madrid forward was claimed to be furious at the interim manager for leaving him out of the team to face Manchester City earlier this month, despite the fact that he was suffering from a minor hip ailment.
Instead of traveling to the Etihad with his teammates for the derby, Ronaldo traveled to Portugal, raising suspicions among his teammates.
The following weekend, he returned to the starting lineup and showed fans what he is capable of with a stunning hat-trick to defeat Tottenham and collect three critical Premier League points.
The United fans will be hoping for many more great performances from Ronaldo, who plans to stay with the club next season, according to AS.
According to the Spanish site, the veteran still believes he made the correct decision by returning the Red Devils, despite the fact that they have little chance of winning anything this season.
According to the source, Ronaldo believes Old Trafford executives will pick a wise managerial decision when Rangnick’s interim tenure finishes this summer.
After clashing with Rangnick at times, the Sporting Lisbon academy graduate is said to be looking forward to working with a new, elite-level manager.
Mauricio Pochettino of PSG and Erin ten Hag of Ajax are the frontrunners to succeed the German, although Chelsea’s Thomas Tuchel is also in the running despite questions about his future at Stamford Bridge.
Regardless of who takes over in the dugout next season, Ronaldo expects the next permanent manager to get strong backing in the summer transfer market so that United can compete for titles next season.
