‘Couldn’t train’: Jurgen Klopp reveals Liverpool have a ‘bit of a problem’
Jurgen Klopp revealed details of a mild ailment that has spread among the Liverpool group during his pre-match press conference.
Curtis Jones and Kostas Tsimikas, both Liverpool players, have been absent from training this week due to illness.
Tsimikas has returned to training, while Jones is still out, according to Klopp.
Klopp mentioned Jones and Tsimikas.
“We had a bit of a problem, and I hope it didn’t extend or get bigger. We had a little problem with diarrhoea and stuff, Curtis and Kostas. Kostas was back yesterday, Curtis couldn’t train yesterday still, so these two boys were out.”
It’s never a good thing when a sickness spreads through your team, but fortunately for Liverpool, Curtis Jones isn’t an important player.
The teenager is a tremendously skilled footballer who the Reds would prefer to have available, but with Jordan Henderson, Thiago, Naby Keita, and James Milner all available for selection, he shouldn’t be overlooked too much.
However, as Klopp points out, the primary concern is that this disease will spread among the group, and while it is only a minor ailment, we’ve seen situations like this spoil a team’s season before.
Remember the famous ‘lasagna gate’ event with Tottenham? An illness spreading in a team may completely decimate a squad in a short amount of time, and with the title on the line, Liverpool must avoid such a scenario.
