At this point of the year, players’ deals are set to lapse across all levels at Manchester United, as the squads start to take shape in the course of the 2021/22 period.

Eight United players are being cleared, and those comprise first-team goalkeepers Joel Pereira and Sergio Romero, as well as six members of the Academy: Jacob Carney, Mark Helm, Iestyn Hughes, Arnau Puigmal, Max Taylor, and Aliou Traore.

This is according to reports published on the Manchester United website. The club has thanked all the departing players for their service to the club.

According to the published information, senior goalkeeper Lee Grant and veteran forward Juan Mata are in talks over new deals at United, as well as young stopper Paul Woolston.

Another of United’s first-team keepers, Joel Pereira, 24, is set to leave the club but 38-year-old shot-stopper Lee Grant is considering extending his stay with the Red Devils.

Centre-back Max Taylor, 21, who overcame testicular cancer in 2018 and was on the bench for the Europa League tie with Astana in 2019, will also depart in the summer.

Mata contracted for United from Chelsea for a then club-record £37.1m in January 2014 but has only made nine Premier League debuts this season.
