Comparing Liverpool and Man City’s last eight fixtures ahead of title race showdown
On Saturday, the Premier League lead changed hands twice as the fight between Manchester City and Liverpool heated up.
Jurgen Klopp’s team triumphed for the tenth match in a row at lunchtime, and they might make quick work of Watford to move top.
City had a double-digit lead at one point this season, despite the fact that Liverpool had games in hand, but Pep Guardiola’s men were forced to reply at Burnley.
They scored two first-half goals to take control of the game at Turf Moor and return to the top of the table, with all eyes on their title duel at the Ethiad on March 10.
Liverpool and Manchester City have won the last four Premier League titles and will do so again this season.
The outcome next weekend could have a significant impact on where the Premier League trophy ends up.
The two sides have set a new standard in England, putting together incredible victory streaks.
City appear to have the easier run-in, but pressure might still play a role in the last months.
Guardiola’s team still has games against Watford, Brighton, Leeds, and Newcastle.
On paper, their toughest game appears to be a trip to West Ham on the season’s last weekend.
Liverpool have previously struggled at the London Stadium this season.
City will complete the season at home against Aston Villa.
Meanwhile, Liverpool still has a few thorny issues to work out.
Manchester United and Tottenham Hotspur will also visit Anfield, while Klopp must prepare for another Merseyside derby against an Everton side fighting for survival.
Liverpool’s next game is a trip to Southampton, a game they lost last season, before finishing the season at home against Wolves.
Both City and Liverpool must balance local objectives with Champions League aspirations.
Guardiola’s team will face Atletico Madrid in the quarter-finals, while Liverpool will face Benfica.
The two teams were separated in the draw and will not face until the final, should they both make it.
However, City and Liverpool will meet in the FA Cup semi-finals, with their match at Wembley taking place the weekend after their Premier League encounter.
