Coach advises center-back target against a move to Tottenham or Chelsea
Igor Biscan, a former Liverpool defender, has cautioned Tottenham target Josko Gvardiol against making a move to the Premier League so early in his career.
Gvardiol, despite being only 20 years old, is regarded by many as one of the best young central defenders in the world due to his stellar performances for RB Leipzig over the past 18 months.
As a result of his World Cup performances, the centre- back’s status has risen even further, albeit he was exposed by Lionel Messi’s moment of brilliance in Croatia’s semi-final loss to Argentina.
Last month, Tuttosport reported that Tottenham and Chelsea are competing to capture Gvardiol before the January transfer window.
In recent days, however, it has been reported that Manchester United, Manchester City, Bayern Munich, Real Madrid, Barcelona, Inter Milan, and Juventus are all interested in the 20-year-old (Foot Mercato).
Biscan believes that the Leipzig star should wait at least another year before making the move to English football.
The 44-year-old manager of Croatia’s Under-21s told The Atheltic the following about Gvardiol: “I believe maybe it’s too early to go (to the Premier League) now.
“Take Kalidou Koulibaly, he’s regarded as one of the best defenders in the world, but he’s still trying to find his way in the Premier League. It’s a completely different environment.
“He’s still a little bit too young for me to be sure he’s an instant success. Maybe he needs to wait for a year or so to be ready.”
