‘Close to leaving’: Fabrizio Romano sends midnight tweet regarding £107m Liverpool transfer target, Chelsea and Bayern to submit official bids
The potential signing of Matthijs de Ligt by Liverpool has gotten a lot of attention in recent weeks.
Liverpool are ‘dreaming’ about partnering De Ligt and fellow Netherlands international Virgil van Dijk together, according to TuttoMercatoWeb in Italy.
According to Corriere Dello Sport, Juventus wanted a straight cash deal for the player with a £107 million release clause in his contract, amid talk regarding a swap move between the Dutch defender and Chelsea’s Timo Werner.
Chelsea is still interested in the big centre-back.
And, this morning, Fabrizio Romano announced on Twitter that the midfielder is ‘close to leaving’ the Italian giants, sparking talk of a move to Stamford Bridge or Bayern Munich, albeit the Italian writer never mentioned Liverpool.

Meeting today for Koulibaly, not easy on player side but Juve want him – Barça was his priority. Juve, now exploring many options.
As Romano noted, there have been no official proposals for the former Ajax prodigy, so Jurgen Klopp should still be able to bring him to Anfield this summer.
The Reds boast a plethora of good central defenders, but Van Dijk and Joel Matip are both over 30, and Joe Gomez is rumoured to be leaving Merseyside.
Ibrahima Konate is Klopp’s only long-term center-back option, and what a prospect he’d be if De Ligt could play alongside him.
Having said that, Chelsea needs someone like De Ligt now and in the future, and that urgency may offer them an advantage over their Premier League opponents.
