Classy Cristiano Ronaldo tribute planned by Anfield crowd after the heartbreaking death of his baby boy
Following the terrible news of Cristiano Ronaldo’s baby son’s death, Liverpool fans are planning a minute of applause for him during Manchester United’s visit to Anfield on Tuesday evening.
Yesterday evening, the Portugal international and his partner Georgina Rodriguez issued a joint statement on Instagram, describing the situation as “the worst pain that any parent can suffer.”
Messages of love and support have been flooding in from around the world of sport ever since, and Liverpool fans are likely to follow suit tonight, putting rivalries aside and paying respect to Ronaldo’s family in the seventh minute of their Premier League match.
“I’ve just read that Liverpool fans are going to clap in support of Ronaldo on the 7th minute of the game tonight, please pass it on to anyone who is going. Tragedy has no colours,” one Reds fan tweeted.
“I think our fans could show a bit of class tomorrow and show our support for Cristiano and his partner after losing their son. A minute’s applause on the 7th minute Reds? Show other fans what true compassion is. Rivalries mean nothing at times like this,” wrote another.
Ronaldo and Rodriquez met in 2016 while she was working as a Gucci store assistant.
She’s since been close to Ronaldo’s older children, Cristiano Jr, 11, and twins Mateo and Eva, four, and gave birth to daughter Alana, four, before becoming pregnant with twins last year.
As they anticipated their new arrivals, Georgina lauded Cristiano as “the best parent in the world,” adding on Instagram: “Every day by your side is happy and special.”
“We love you indefinitely. Thank you so much to the best dad in the world.”
Tonight’s encounter is a must-win for both Liverpool and Manchester United, with Jurgen Klopp’s team desperate to keep pace with league leaders Manchester City and Ralf Rangnick’s men still chasing a top-four finish.
Marcus Rashford might then start up front for Manchester United at Anfield, as Ralf Rangnick has limited options with Edinson Cavani out due to injury.
