Christopher Nkunku shares where he thinks is his best position ahead of joining Chelsea this summer
In an interview with Football Manager, Christopher Nkunku stated that he believes his best position is as an attacking midfielder.
The current RB Leipzig player is expected to join Chelsea at the conclusion of this season.
The Frenchman has signed a pre-contract with the Blues, who conducted a secret medical examination with him after failing to sign him last summer.
He will arrive at Stamford Bridge in the wake of the club’s unprecedented January resurgence.
Joao Felix, Mykhailo Mudryk, and Noni Madueke joined the club in an effort to bolster the severely deficient attack thus far this season.
There is a good chance that Felix will be made a permanent member of the club if he performs well for the remainder of the season, despite the fact that he has been acquired on loan at this point.
There is much anticipation surrounding his return from suspension, as he is eligible to play against West Ham this weekend.
However, his preferred position behind the striker would conflict with that of Nkunku, who has admitted he thrives in that area.
He said: “I think that (attacking midfield) is a position that suits me well. Close to the goal behind a striker. That describes me as a player nicely so I always like playing in this role.”
With Kai Havertz performing significantly better in that position as opposed to as a striker, it could pose a problem for Graham Potter as manager.
It will be extremely difficult to start all three players, and if Felix becomes a full-time Chelsea player, the German could be in jeopardy.
He has been linked to a move to Bayern Munich in the past, as he appears to be the ideal replacement for Thomas Muller when he departs.
