Christopher Nkunku blocks Chelsea from offering Conor Gallagher new contract
Journalist Simon Phillips asserted that Chelsea has yet to finalize a decision regarding Conor Gallagher’s prospective contract renewal.
According to his Substack, the club is holding off on making a determination until they assess the impact of certain injured players.
Despite facing stiff competition from high-priced midfielders, Gallagher has been a standout performer at Stamford Bridge this season, solidifying his position and making a strong case for a new deal.
As recently as the most recent transfer window, the club expressed a strong interest in selling the 23-year-old, aiming to capitalize on several academy graduates to finance significant expenditures.
However, according to Phillips, the trajectory of Conor Gallagher’s future may hinge on the performances of Christopher Nkunku and Romeo Lavia upon their return to action.
Phillips noted that a conclusive decision, in collaboration with Pochettino, will be required to determine the optimal course of action for Gallagher and whether ongoing contract negotiations will reach a resolution.
He said: “So the bottom line is, they will need to make a final decision along with Pochettino on the best form of action for Gallagher going forward and whether they will be completing these latest contract talks.

“There hasn’t been any advancements or any very recent talks about the contract, and that’s partly because of what I mentioned above and the club being keen to see what happens when Lavia and Nkunku come back in, and also because it’s been a crucial part of the season and Gallagher has been concentrating on being a very important player for Chelsea.”
Mauricio Pochettino has dropped hints that the duo, who have yet to make their debuts for Chelsea, are on the verge of returning to first-team training.
Nevertheless, displacing Conor Gallagher from his current position would require impressive performances, as he has swiftly become a favored player for the manager.
