Christian Eriksen discloses why he declined Spurs and Brentford move for Manchester United
Christian Eriksen has admitted that he turned down interest from Tottenham and Brentford because he felt a transfer to Manchester United would offer him’ redepmtion’ from the last 15 months.
The Dane signed a three-year contract with United in July, amid interest from rival Premier League clubs.
Eriksen suffered a heart attack during Euro 2021, and Inter Milan terminated his contract because the Serie A does not permit players to compete with an Implantable Cardioverter Defibrillator (ICD).
Brentford did not have an assurance that Eriksen will play again, therefore they took a risk by signing him in January.
Eriksen flourished in north London, and after his initial six-month contract expired, the Bees were eager to recruit him to a long-term contract.
Antonio Conte confirmed last season that Tottenham was also interested in signing Eriksen. Eriksen’s former club, Tottenham, was also keen on signing the Dane.
Eriksen, though, cites the allure of joining with “one of the bigger clubs”
“It is one of the biggest clubs in the world,” said Eriksen.
“It was a redemption after what had happened earlier, and like proving that you could get an offer from United.
“It was great. It’s a huge club I’ve joined. I had enough [opportunities]. I had enough options to choose from, but it was all about finding the right one.
“Of course, Brentford wanted me to stay but I would say where I am in my career, I had the opportunity to step up to what I had dreamed of and hoped for.
“I wanted to kick-start my career by coming to an even bigger address [club], and I succeeded.”
Eriksen has been a success at Old Trafford since his arrival, and he was named Man of the Match in the team’s most recent 3-1 victory over Arsenal.
The Dane assisted on United’s third goal and made eye-catching passes on the first and second goals.
