Chelsea’s own Roberto Firmino provides Thomas Tuchel with a simple transfer solution to his injury crisis

Within the next twelve months, Todd Boehly will need to resolve a contractual issue that he did not create.

Next summer, both N’Golo Kante and Jorginho will be free agents.

This is in many ways a continuation of the defensive contract crisis that plagued Stamford Bridge last season.

Although Boehly may have attempted to resolve it quickly with the signings of Kalidou Koulibaly and Wesley Fofana, it should not become an annual occurrence to clean up after contractual sagas.

Both Kante and Jorginho’s age and longevity at the highest level present a formidable counterargument to negotiating new contracts.

While also considering the potential of new singers in that region who would be brought in for high fees and high expectations.

A transition has been on the horizon for some time, and it could be argued that it should have occurred sooner given some of the recent missed opportunities.

When focusing on Kante, the dilemma regarding him is evident.

When focusing on Kante, the dilemma regarding him is evident. Despite the fact that one of Europe’s all-time greatest midfielders is still capable of delivering truly extraordinary performances, the harsh reality of his persistent injury setbacks continues to limit the number of times we will be able to see him during a season.

Due to the wear and tear on his body, Kante resembles the Undertaker from WWE.

He was only able to compete in the biggest event of the year at Wrestlemania before vanishing for another year.

The 30-year-old still played 42 times during the 2021/22 season, a number that surprised me when researching this article. Down by six from the 2020/21 season, in which he produced an incredible string of Champions League performances.

Nothing has come close to his low of 28 appearances in the 2019-20 season, the season in which his serious injury problems began in Azerbaijan during the Europa League final.

Given that Kante has been an irreplaceable and one-of-a-kind talent for the past eight years, a new contract may be viewed by some as a risk worth taking on the basis of sentiment and the player’s extraordinary production.

However, this is likely not the most prudent strategy for a player whose availability continues to diminish.

Financially, Chelsea’s July 2016 payment of £30 million to Leicester City has generated a ridiculous amount of value.

A Premier League League championship that was largely defined by his talent, and a Champions League championship that would never occur without his influence.

In addition, the collection of elite performances that have at times defined football’s biggest games.

A comparable example would be Roberto Firmino at Liverpool. Another player in his final year of contract, and the evolution of Jurgen Klopp’s attack has been apparent for some time.

As with Kante, the value gained by Firmino since his arrival in 2015 has been absurd in comparison to what was anticipated when he was acquired from Hoffenheim.

He will likely depart on his own accord, and there will be little sense of time wasted.

Similarly, Kante’s transfer to Chelsea ranks among the club’s greatest ever. Thomas Tuchel hopes that in his final chapter in blue, he will be able to perform one more famous run of shows.
