Chelsea’s first January signing completes medical, set to be be announced

David Datro Fofana has completed his medical examination and is  prepared to sign with Chelsea.

The Blues will pay Molde €12 million for the striker, who has agreed to a “long contract,” according to yesterday’s report by Fabrizio Romano.

The deal can now be completed with FIFA, and all that remains is to await the announcement and the January 1st opening of the transfer window.

Before the World Cup began,  the January transfer market was practically open, given that the Blues will play just one game before new arrivals can be registered.

The last thing Chelsea wanted was a month-long bidding war that would deprive the first team of much-needed firepower. All rumors of Fofana heading out on loan are undoubtedly false.

The Blues have been typically subpar in the last third of the field this season, scoring just 17 goals in 14 Premier League games.

In addition, Kai Havertz, Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang, and Armando Broja have contributed just eight goals in all competitions, with Havertz scoring the most with four.

Broja, though, has been ruled out for the remainder of the season after sustaining a catastrophic knee injury in a preseason match against Aston Villa earlier this month.

As a result, it became evident that Chelsea would need to acquire a new forward, especially as any deal for RB Leipzig’s Christopher Nkunku would not be finalized until the  next summer.
