Chelsea ‘tell Mason Mount he is free to leave’
According to reports, Chelsea’s midfielder Mason Mount has been informed by the club that he can leave for another team during the upcoming summer transfer window.
Mount, who is an international player for England, has a contract that will expire at the end of the following season, and discussions to extend his stay at the club have not progressed.
Despite the club’s co-owner, Todd Boehly’s efforts to keep Mount at Chelsea, the midfielder is said to be dissatisfied with the wages offered by the club.
Mount wants to earn the same amount as the highest-paid players at Chelsea, but the club has emphasized the importance of a long-term contract instead. Mount’s current deal was signed in 2019.
As discussions to extend Mason Mount’s contract at Chelsea have not advanced, the club faces the possibility of losing him on a free transfer in 2024. Therefore, the upcoming summer transfer window could be the club’s final chance to secure a significant fee for his sale.
Football Insider reports that negotiations over Mason Mount’s contract with Chelsea have broken down completely, and the club has informed him that he can depart at the end of the current season.
Chelsea has not shown any willingness to enhance their latest offer, which amounts to £180,000 per week, while Mount is holding out for a contract worth £250,000 per week, which is similar to Reece James’ salary.
Consequently, the club is ready to sell their academy graduate ahead of the 2023-24 season, and he has recently engaged Neil Fewings as his new agent in anticipation of a potential transfer in the summer.
There have been strong rumors linking Mason Mount to Liverpool as they plan to revamp their midfield, and the Englishman would be a more economical choice than Borussia Dortmund’s Jude Bellingham.
Mount is reportedly eager to work with Liverpool’s manager Jurgen Klopp, who is also said to be a big fan of the midfielder. However, Manchester United has also taken notice of Mount’s circumstances.
Manchester United are reportedly interested in signing Mason Mount due to his versatility and being a product of Chelsea’s academy.
Mount has been in impressive form for the club, having scored 33 goals and provided 37 assists in 192 games, after loan spells at Vitesse and Derby County.
However, his current season has not been as productive, with just three goals and six assists in 32 appearances, and he has been sidelined due to a pelvic injury.
Despite this, he has been called up to the England squad, although his fitness was questioned by his Brighton and Hove Albion manager, Graham Potter. In their latest Premier League game, Chelsea was held to a 2-2 draw against Everton, which pushed them into the lower half of the table.
