Chelsea supporters celebrate after Antonio Rudigar gets suspended on international duty
Chelsea fans are ecstatic after star defender Antonio Rudiger was suspended while on international duty for Germany.
Germany thrashed Liechtenstein 9-0 in World Cup qualifying on Thursday, as the 2010 world champions proved too strong for their small neighbors.
Germany’s goal scorers included Ilkay Gundogan, Leroy Sane, Marco Reus, Thomas Muller, and Ridle Baku, with Hansi Flick’s side finishing nine points clear at the top of ‘Group J.’
Rudiger, who received a yellow card during the game and will thus be suspended for the next international game away in Armenia, was a casualty of the victory.
Chelsea fans, on the other hand, are overjoyed at the prospect of their center-back missing the long trip on Sunday.
Instead, Rudiger will most likely return to Chelsea training on Monday, having gotten some much-needed rest before the hectic winter schedule begins.
Blues fans have taken to Twitter to applaud the 28-year-“professionalism” old’s in allegedly prioritizing club over country.
One ecstatic fan Tweeted: “Proper professional! Chelsea comes first and he now gets to return to Cobham early.
“Give him that new contract. Make him captain. Give him whatever he wants.”
Another went on to add that the defender was aware of being close to suspension, saying: “I’m sure he knew he was a yellow card away from getting the rest of the week off.”
Others responded to the news with “YESSSS!!” and love heart emojis.
Chelsea will play Leicester City in the Premier League next, looking to extend their three-point lead at the top of the table.
The Blues will then face Juventus in the Champions League at home before facing Manchester United, with Rudiger needing to be at his best to keep Cristiano Ronaldo at bay.
