Chelsea Sparks Controversy with Alleged Insult to Arsenal After Selling Jorginho on Transfer Deadline Day

On Transfer Deadline Day, Chelsea was accused of taking a jab at Arsenal by selling Jorginho to their rivals in north London.

The Italian midfielder moved from Stamford Bridge to the Emirates in a transaction valued at approximately £12 million.

His Chelsea contract was set to expire in the summer, but he has signed an 18-month deal with an additional year option with Mikel Arteta’s squad.

Jorginho is certainly not the first player to play for both Chelsea and Arsenal in recent years, with Petr Cech, David Luiz, Willian, Olivier Giroud, and Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang among others having done so.

However, this does not mean that their rivalry has subsided.

Tuesday’s statement by Chelsea after Jorginho’s official transfer to Arsenal revealed as much.

The Blues sent a thank you note to a player who had spent four and a half years with the club.

However, they could not resist taking a jab at Arsenal.

In the second paragraph, the statement read: “Many of Jorginho’s best performances came in European competition. He starred in Baku at the end of his first season when we thumped Arsenal 4-1, and the midfielder played a pivotal role en route to Champions League glory in 2021, starting all but one of our knockout games as we conceded just twice and shut out Manchester City in the Porto final.”

Wow.

Very deviant indeed.

Fans of football have responded to Chelsea’s statement.
