Chelsea set sights on £52m striker who’s outscored Karim Benzema this season – journalist

It has been reported that Chelsea is interested in acquiring the services of Jonathan David, a striker from Lille.

According to Simon Phillips, a journalist on his Substack, the club is currently monitoring the 23-year-old player.

Graham Potter’s team is also linked with several other center-forwards as they are in need of a prolific striker for their attacking line-up. David has been in excellent form for Lille this season, scoring 21 goals in just 29 matches across all competitions.

Interestingly, he has outscored Karim Benzema, the Real Madrid superstar, who has scored 19 goals in 28 matches during the current campaign.

Chelsea interest on Jonathan David

According to previous reports, Chelsea had a strong interest in signing Lille’s key player before the January transfer window.

Jeunes Footeux reported last year that the Blues were eyeing Jonathan David, whose price tag could be at least €60million (£52million).

Despite the interest, David stayed in Ligue 1 with Lille for this season, where the team is currently ranked sixth in the French league.

However, the striker has been scoring goals at an impressive rate, comparable to some of the top players in Europe, which is why there is a lot of buzz surrounding this young forward.

Jonathan David is a talented young attacker with speed and a lot of potential, but it could be a significant gamble for Chelsea to make him their top signing for the striker position this summer.

Chelsea has struggled to find a reliable forward in recent years, so they may opt for a more secure choice, such as Napoli’s Victor Osimhen, who seems like a safer bet to come in and quickly make an impact at Stamford Bridge.

Nevertheless, David’s profile could fit well with Chelsea’s current ownership and transfer strategy.
