Chelsea ‘seeking an exemption’ from the Premier League’s spending regulations after a lavish £300 million spending spree
After spending more than £300MILLION during the January transfer window, Chelsea is rumored to be seeking exemptions from Premier League spending rules.
Since arriving at Stamford Bridge in May of last year, new owner Todd Boehly has spent £600,000,000 on 17 PLAYERS.
And now, after spending all of that money over the past nine months, The Mail reports Chelsea will request exemptions from the Premier League’s spending rules when they submit their season-ending financial statements.
They claim they were unable to receive income for three months in 2022, when former owner Roman Abramovich was sanctioned by the United Kingdom government.
The regulations allow a club to incur losses of up to £105 million over a three-year period.
Chelsea were in danger of exceeding these limitations for the 2021 calendar year.

However, due to the pandemic, the Blues received special allowances, as did several other teams.
Now, they hope to obtain similar exemptions once more.
Uncertainty surrounds the Premier League’s response to Chelsea’s request.
Boehly’s squad may have trouble adhering to Uefa’s Financial Fair Play regulations.
Chelsea was previously placed on Uefa’s “watch list,” which includes clubs at risk of violating the rules.
The Blues continue to struggle in the Premier League despite spending a fortune on players.
They are currently ninth in the table and may not qualify for Europe at all.
Graham Potter’s men are still in the Champions League, but they face Borussia Dortmund in the round of 16.
