Chelsea now make Barcelona star No1 priority signing: Boehly is ‘huge admirer’ of
According to sources from Football Insider, Chelsea is prioritizing the signing of Frenkie de Jong, a midfielder from Barcelona, this summer.
Although the team showed interest in the Dutch player during the previous summer, they were unable to seal the deal as De Jong rejected offers to leave Spain.
However, it seems that Chelsea’s owner Todd Boehly is a big fan of the midfielder and the club remains interested in signing him this summer.
Erik ten Hag, the manager of Manchester United, is also interested in signing Frenkie de Jong this summer, as he wants to reunite with his former Ajax player at Old Trafford.
Even though De Jong expressed his desire to stay at Camp Nou last summer, the financial struggles of Barcelona may force him towards the exit doors this season.
While Barca’s manager Xavi still admires De Jong’s abilities, he also understands that the club needs to sell players this summer to raise funds.
Football Insider sources reported last month (24 February) that Barcelona is making an effort to sign Ilkay Gundogan, the midfielder of Manchester City, as they see him as an excellent replacement for Frenkie de Jong.
Under the leadership of Todd Boehly, Chelsea has been spending big, shelling out more than £600 million in both the summer and January transfer windows.
Despite this, Boehly is still looking to strengthen the team further and has made Frenkie de Jong his top priority.
The Dutch midfielder has played in 32 matches in various competitions this season, scoring two goals and providing one assist.
