Chelsea manager Graham Potter responds to Mykhailo Mudryk’s apparent dig at Marc Cucurella
Graham Potter has dismissed reports that Mykhailo Mudryk disrespected teammate Marc Cucurella, stating that the issue is ‘common’
Tensions continue to rise at Stamford Bridge as Potter’s squad remains firmly mired in mud and results fail to improve.
A 1-1 draw against West Ham was the most recent setback for the Blues, whose new-look squad continues to gel despite a strong start.
Mudryk appeared visibly irritated with Cucurella when the Spaniard failed to pick up his forward run and instead passed inside, before apologizing for his behavior.
Despite the incident and reported tension, Potter insisted the camp was happy: “There’s no problem in terms of anything sinister. If anything, it’s teammates understanding each other.
“It’s quite a common problem I’d say. When to pass? What point? What time? Playing against a back five, West Ham made it difficult to access the wideman’s feet or when to make the runs.
“Misha, that is his third game. So there’s no problem, it’s just a challenge of understanding.”
Since joining Chelsea for £60 million from Brighton last summer, Cucurella has struggled to adjust to life as a Blues player, as evidenced by the sarcastic ovation he received as he was substituted at the London Stadium.
Mudryk, who joined the club in January despite being heavily linked with Arsenal, was criticized for his response to Chelsea’s left-back when he failed to select the pass to the Ukrainian.
After the game, Mudryk’s Instagram account was observed ‘liking’ a post that criticized his teammate’s passing, which it subsequently ‘unliked’ when fans became aware.
Mudryk has failed to score in any of his first three games since signing with Chelsea, despite the constant discussion of the defender’s difficulties. If the club is to improve on the field, he must quickly rectify this situation.
