Chelsea make further advancement in negotiating a premature return for the 29-year-old star

Chelsea and Inter Milan are still in talks to find a mutually beneficial arrangement that would return Blues’ big-name signing-turned-outcast Romelu Lukaku to San Siro.

According to the Athletic’s David Ornstein (Subscription Required), the two clubs are discussing the potential of a loan deal, but there is one major stumbling block that is supposed to be delaying things down.

The loan price for the 29-year-old striker must be negotiated, but that is hardly the most difficult obstacle.

Inter are willing to pay the entirety of Lukaku’s salary, which Chelsea appreciates, as well as a €5 million loan fee, which Chelsea does not.

West Londoners are anticipating more, but a settlement in this matter is expected.

Chelsea’s willingness to attract players in the opposite direction appears to be the main impediment to finding a solution right now.

The Blues are still interested in right-back Denzel Dumfries and center-back Alessandro Bastoni, but Inter are said to desire a straight trade with no additional players involved.

Todd Boehly, the new owner of Chelsea, is still not sure that allowing the striker to leave on loan is the wisest option.

Lukaku has a good relationship with the American and is choosing to be affectionate and professional towards the club at this time.

Yes, it appears to be so. Events in the last ten months, originating from an unauthorised Sky Italia interview, appear to have burned the bridge between Lukaku and Thomas Tuchel

If the striker remains, the situation will only worsen, affecting the entire squad. It is still in everyone’s best interests for Lukaku’s departure to be discussed and completed as soon as possible.

Chelsea has a difficult and costly pill to Chelsea has a difficult and costly pill to swallow Conceding the failure of a £97.5 million signing is never easy, and the Lukaku situation is likely to make the Blues reconsider such exorbitant agreements in the future.

It’s all about damage control right now. The first stage is to ensure that the striker exits as quickly as feasible.

They now have Timo Werner, but after losing Tammy Abraham and Olivier Giroud last summer, the club would be wise to bring in a new face if Lukaku left.

It would be a shocking sight if Armando Broja turned out to be that man, because viewers would then wonder why it couldn’t have been Tammy in the first place.
