Chelsea make Andrey Santos transfer decision amid Fernandez and Mudryk claim

Andrey Santos, who was acquired by Chelsea from Vasco da Gama during the January transfer window, has yet to obtain a work permit to play for his new club.

Blues fans have been able to watch Santos play, as the teenager has been the captain of Brazil at the under-20 World Cup.

The number of goals scored by Santos during the tournament justifies the £18 million Chelsea spent to acquire his services.

The Blues’ astute acquisition has been overshadowed by the high-priced transfers of Enzo Fernandez and Mykhailo Mudryk.

Three days after completing a £106 million transfer to Stamford Bridge, Fernandez made his debut against Fulham, following Noni Madueke, Mudryk, Benoit Badiashile, David Datso Fofana, and Santos.

Since then, the other six have all debuted in west London, but Santos has yet to do so, and he may have to wait a while longer.

The lack of a work permit prevents him from playing for Chelsea, but the Blues are hopeful that his performances at the South American U-20 Championship will help; if not, he will be loaned to a Brazilian club that qualified for the Libertadores.

Santos has already been praised by a number of individuals, and many at Chelsea consider him to be the club’s best winter window acquisition.

Speaking on The London is Blue podcast, journalist Matt Law said: “Chelsea are very, very excited about Andrey Santos. There’s people in the club that think he’s been their best January Transfer.”

Santos is an acquisition for the future, but Chelsea will hope to see him play soon given his talent and performances for the Brazilian national team.
