Chelsea ‘identify next manager after Graham Potter’ if they have to make change
Chelsea is preparing a move for Luis Enrique if Graham Potter is fired within the next few months.
Despite back-to-back massive spending sprees in the previous two transfer windows, the Blues have struggled all season and are currently mired in the middle of the table.
It is believed that Chelsea owner Todd Boehly is comfortable entrusting Potter with his long-term vision for the club, but if on-field results do not improve, he may be forced to fire the former Brighton manager.
If that occurs, the Spanish news outlet Fichajes Chelsea will pursue Enrique, who resigned as Spain’s manager following a disappointing performance at the 2022 World Cup.
The Spaniard is open to joining Chelsea, but recent reports in Spain indicate that Atletico Madrid will provide stiff competition for his signature if longtime manager Diego Simeone leaves the club at the conclusion of the season.
Despite Spain’s poor performance in Qatar, Enrique was praised for guiding his young team to the Euro 2020 semifinals, where they were narrowly defeated on penalties by eventual champion Italy.
In 2015, he won the treble with Barcelona, and his 76% win percentage is the highest of any manager in the club’s history.
As mentioned previously, Potter is expected to remain in charge of the Blues for the time being. However, prioritizing ‘long-term’ goals becomes somewhat challenging when you’re not producing results after receiving £550 million worth of players.
