Chelsea handed huge Edouard Mendy boost ahead of AFC0N call-up
Chelsea have received a significant boost as a result of Edouard Mendy’s selection for Senegal in the Africa Cup of Nations.
The goalkeeper has been officially called up to the Senegal national team for the Africa Cup of Nations, which will take place in January.
And now, as reported by AP News, Chelsea and other European clubs have been given a boost by being allowed to postpone the release of their players.
The report states that: “European clubs were handed a boost when they were allowed to delay the release of players to African Cup of Nations squads until the week the tournament begins after a request from domestic leagues was accepted by the Confederation of African Football.”
As a result, clubs can now keep their players until January 3rd, a day after Chelsea plays Liverpool in the Premier League.
The competition begins on January 9th and concludes on February 6th due to Mendy’s absence.
Hakim Ziyech, on the other hand, will stay at the club after being snubbed by Morocco for a call-up due to a disagreement with his manager.
Despite the fact that Thomas Tuchel’s side will keep Mendy, Mohammed Salah, Naby Keita, and Sadio Mane will all be available for Liverpool’s Premier League match against Chelsea.
Andy Robertson is set to miss the game due to suspension, but it appears that both teams will be at full strength for the top-of-the-table clash in the New Year.
Chelsea is currently tied on points with Liverpool, six points behind league leader Manchester City.
