Chelsea granted massive Lionel Messi transfer hope as La Liga president discloses contract condition

There is renewed hope for Chelsea and other potential suitors to sign Lionel Messi, as the 35-year-old forward’s future at Paris Saint-Germain is becoming increasingly uncertain.

Despite being linked with moves to some of the world’s richest clubs, Messi has not committed to a long-term future with PSG and appears to have strained relations with the club.

His contract in the French capital is set to expire at the end of the season, making him a free agent in the summer. Recently, Messi was suspended by PSG for going on a trip to Saudi Arabia without the club’s permission, despite having asked for it and postponed the trip twice.

This has added to the uncertainty surrounding his future at the club.

PSG has suspended Messi for two games and fined him two weeks’ wages after a meeting with club officials.

With Messi likely to be seeking a new club in the summer, Barcelona has emerged as the frontrunner to sign him. Despite Barcelona’s financial constraints, La Liga president Javier Tebas has revealed that the club will be able to afford Messi by selling players for substantial amounts.

In an interview with Spanish publication AS, Tebas stated that Barcelona’s plan is to sell players and generate funds for the acquisition of new ones.

“The best players stay in Spain and they say that Leo wants to return to Spain, and it will have to be for less money than at PSG. They have their strategy to sign more players.

“I don’t know if it’s the right thing to do, but if they’ve managed to have that revenue, they’ve been able to spend more on players,” Tebas added. “We discussed the consequences of the documentation received with the club.

“Until they see their plan is done, they will continue to exceed it. Here we don’t look at whether they bring him in for Messi or Mbappe. We tell them that they have so much money to sign.”

Reports suggest that eight years ago, there was a possibility of Messi joining Chelsea for a staggering £208 million. Sky Sports’ Gianluca Di Marzio claimed that Roman Abramovich had informally agreed on a contract with the Argentine forward.

However, the deal fell apart when Messi’s father was allegedly informed of the negotiations by an intermediary who felt sidelined and excluded from the discussions.
